it’s a small party world afterall
the old adage of “it’s a small world” rings all too true in my community. and by community, i mean the bay area party community. saturday night at your typical nondescript club-bar combo in san francisco, i came to understand what that good old saying really means. bear with me now…
ok…so i went to this aforementioned club on an unexciting saturday night with a friend visiting from out of town. i called another friend to come meet us there even though she was ending an all-too-awkward-yet-possibly-interesting-first-date with a guy she met at a birthday party the week prior. as we’re waiting for my other friend to come, i noticed that there was a girl walking by whom i had seen many a times at different parties/clubs in the past. the reason i remembered her was because she had the “i thought bleached asian hair went out of style in 2002 look” and wore clear stripper heels on more than one occasion. i understandably noted to my out of town friend that this girl was a party fixture and that we should automatically have disdain for her because she wore clear heels. they looked something like this:

by the time my friend on the first date strolls in with her date, my friend and i are already chatting up some random, not-too-bad-looking-but-at-least-he-was-tall-guy at the bar. turns out the first date guy knows the not too bad looking guy very well and so starts the round of “it’s a small world-ness.” next, not so bad looking guy and i figure out that we know the same person (the birthday party guy) and we decide to text message birthday party boy (on his standard issue blackberry) to come out and complete the circle of life that we’ve just established. turns out too that this not so bad looking guy was the object of my other girl friend’s affection at the birthday party. and the final clincher, not so bad looking guy and clear heel girl are roommates and clear heel girl and the birthday party guy are ex’s. oh, and it turned out the clear heel girl was really nice and amiable and so cleared her from the disdain that we held for her due to her choice in transparent footwear.
